JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Stutsman County Commission held a special meeting Tuesday morning with representative agencies to consider the ADM incentive request.
The commission met with representatives of Barnes County North, Jamestown Rural Fire Department, and Spiritwood Township to ask questions about the tax incentive package requested by the company. ADM plans to build a soybean crushing plant at Spiritwood.
The request from ADM would have $200,000 payments in lieu of taxes for 20 years rather than property taxes estimated at about $600,000 annually.
County Commissioner Joan Morris.
ADM would also demolish most of the Cargill Malt plant, which currently pays around $365,000 per year in taxes.
ADM Senior Tax Manager Richard Dye stated the company was aware of the decrease in property taxes under the plan.
The plan would look to be operational by 2023, crush 160,000 soybeans a day, employ up to 75 full-time employees, and create nearly 600 construction jobs.
Some concerns were raised by different entities, including Brian Paulson, the Chief for the Jamestown Rural Fire Department.
Spiritwood Township Supervisor Clarence Daniel was disappointed that the tax breaks were needed to “get businesses to come in.”
Dye added he would get answers to questions raised by the committee. Another special Stutsman County Commission meeting was scheduled for Friday, June 11th at 10:30 AM.
