The Valley City softball team’s offense struggled to get into a groove Friday afternoon as they fell to Dickinson 6-0.

The Hi-Liners fought with their all and had a solid outing from senior pitcher Hailey Schaefer who had a complete game giving up six runs with five being earned, no walks, ten strikeouts and nine hits.

Sadly, the bats were unable to find their rhythm as they had just three hits against freshman pitcher Ava Jahner who went the distance striking out eight and retiring the final ten batters of the game.

Dickinson started the game off well with three runs thanks to a two-run bomb from junior catcher Taya Hopfauf followed by an RBI-single from junior shortstop Kali Kubas. After three scoreless innings, the Midgets resumed their scoring in the fifth inning with three more runs with RBI-singles from senior center-fielder Paige Balliet and junior right-fielder Reese Hauck followed by an RBI groundout by Kubas.

For the Hi-Liners, Senior shortstop Erika Anderson got a single to lead off the game, but was caught stealing at second. She finished her day 1-3. Schaefer had the only multi-hit day and was one of two Hi-Liners with a hit. She finished 2-3 with two singles.

Valley City will play the loser of the second semifinal game between Bismarck Century and Bismarck High at noon tomorrow in the third place game.
