JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – More than two years of planning and construction later, the Meidinger Splash Park celebrated its completion with a ribbon cutting Friday afternoon.
Major donors, sponsors, committees, and even kids who helped bring the project to fruition braved the 100 degree heat to celebrate a ribbon cutting for the $2.3 million, 77,000 square-foot feature.
Primary donor Shirley Rolfs Meidinger was present at the ribbon cutting. With her donation, the Two Rivers Activity Center (TRAC) was able to move forward with the planning and design phase for the Splash Park.
“I have been proud of the good works by my husband, and feel that now with this gift, we together leave our legacy of giving for Jamestown” states Meidinger.
TRAC Facilities Manager Amy Walters thanked the community for their support, as well as the work of her staff and board.
“Today we are here to recognize the completion of the construction of this fun, new experience and welcome the community to enjoy it,” Walters stated.
She also thanked the “young donors”, or Splash Makers, who donated their own money from their piggy banks to the project.
“Membership to this group was exclusive to selfless givers that donated their savings from their piggy banks to the construction of the Splash Park,” Walters stated. “We appreciate you and look forward to a fun summer.”
Board members Marilyn Smyth & Rachel Liechty thanked donors, who were the primary reason behind the project.
“We have been truly blessed by the generosity of our community that has allowed us to be here today celebrating the grand opening of this wonderful facility,” they stated. “The funding to support the construction of this first milestone in the Building Community Capital Campaign has been provided entirely through individual and organizational grants.”
Ground was broke on the project in August 2020 and completed June 4th, 2021.
The Splash Bash is planned for Saturday from 12 PM to 12 AM with music, games, food, tournaments, a concert and more. The event is free to the public.
