JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A newly installed feature at the 1883 Stutsman County Courthouse Historic Site was hands-off in 2020.

Now, the exhibit will be open to the public and ready for it’s fully intended use.

After a $24,000 grant from Jamestown Tourism, the site installed an installation focused on American civics in 2020. Site Supervisor Steve Reidburn says the hands-on exhibit will let visitors explore the rights and responsibilities of citizenship.

The exhibit was the first of its kind in the U.S. to be dedicated to that topic.

Reidburn says visitors this year will also have wi-fi access inside the courthouse.

And a newly installed flagpole as part of a local Eagle Scout project will greet visitors as they walk past or into the courthouse.

Boy Scouts will conduct a flag raising ceremony every Saturday at 10 AM during the summer.

You can read more about the project here.

The opening day for the courthouse will be Friday, May 28th at 10 AM to 5 PM, regular operating hours for the summer. The site will be closed Memorial Day and reopen for their summer Wednesdays through Sundays from 10 AM to 5 PM.

Reidburn says they also have planned summer events including veterans benefits with David Bratton, performance by Grant Invie, and what it takes to be a county commissioner with Mark Klose.
