CASSELTON, ND (newsdakota.com) – The Oakes baseball team fell 5-3 last night against Kindred-Richland in the semifinal round of the Region 1 Tournament in Casselton.
The breezy conditions made runs a premium and the Tornadoes had no hits after three innings. Their bats would get going in the fourth inning with a Jaidy Gebhardt two-RBI double. He would later score via error to give Oakes a 3-2 lead. They gave up the lead when Kindred first baseman Ethan McKenney hit a two-RBI single in the bottom of the fifth to make it 4-3. They got one more run in the sixth to put the game away.
Catcher Howie Neustel had a fantastic postseason both at the plate and on the mound. He capped it off with two more hits in the contest along with a run and a stolen base. Connor Schall had multi-hit games in every game of the tournament going into Monday, but he wasn’t able to reach said feat as he went 1-4 with a run. Schall had a solid day on the mound, however, with four innings of work striking out seven and giving up three earned runs. Garret Meehl pitched in relief for the third time in the tournament and pitched two scoreless innings.
Oakes finishes their season with a record of 18-17.
