VALLEY CITY, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – Oakes High School had many solid performances from its athletes at the South East Region Track & Field meet on Saturday.

On the girls’ side, Lanie Awender stole the show finishing first in the 400m race with a time of 59.71 seconds. She was also on the 4×400 team that finished first along with Abby Cox, Emma Muggli and Kassidy Jackson. Awender also finished second in the 100m (12.32 seconds) and the 200m (26.96 seconds) race and earned the title of Senior Athlete of the Year.

Emma Muggli finished first in the 100m (16.89 seconds) and 300m hurdles (47.61 seconds) as well as second in the triple jump (34′ 0.5).

Abby Cox placed first in the long jump with 16 feet and 2.5 inches.

The throwers performed very well at the meet with Sadie Hansen leading the way placing first in the shot put with a throw of 39 feet and 10 inches. Laikyn Roney finished second with a throw of 36 feet and 8 inches and Samantha Meehl finished fourth with a throw of 35 feet and 0.5 inches.

For the boys, the 4×800 team finished second with a time of 8:53.06 made up of Dalton Schmit, Adam Meyer, Joseph Heim and Blayson Dolney. The 4×400 team made up of Joseph Heim, Adam Meyer, Blayson Dolney and Garret Meehl finished fifth with a time of 3:45.66.

Ashton Biesterfield placed first in the discus throw with a 160 feet and 1-inch toss. He also got first place in the javelin throw with a 168 feet and 1-inch throw.

Alex Muggli finished first in the long jump with a distance of 20 feet and 7 inches.

After a great performance at the South East Region Track & Field meet, coach Roxy Miller was named Region Coach of the Year. The full results from the meet can be seen here.
