BISMARCK, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – The Blue Jays girls track team took second place in the West Region Meet on Friday as Meghan Ford was named the Senior Athlete of the Year.
Ford took first place in both the 1600 and 3200 meter races at the West Region Meet. Ford ran under five minutes in the 1600 at 4:57.32 and a 10:41.73 in the 3200, a full minute better than second place. 7th grader Brooklyn Nygaard qualified for state by taking fourth in the 3200.
Annie Nabwe was a West Region champion in both the 100 meter dash and shot put. Nabwe put up a new West Region record with a throw of 48’1″, and ran a 12.04 in the 100 meter. Nabwe’s performance puts her 4th all-time in shot put and tied for 5th in the 100 meter dash. She also took the top spot in the discus, and second in the javelin.
Julia Skari took second in the 300 meter hurdles, and also took fourth in the 4×100 with Allysah Larson, Hunter Petersen, and Yolanda Nabwe. Petersen also qualified for state in the triple jump. Y. Nabwe took fifth in the 200 meter dash to qualify for state.
As a team, the Blue Jays took second place overall with an overall score of 100. Century finished first at 176, and Bismarck High took third with 96 points.
BOY’S TRACK & FIELD
Ben Anteau took the West Region title in the 3200 meter run with a time of 9:08.36. This time broke the outdoor school record set by Jeff Dick in 1984 and is the third best time in state history.
Kade Schumacher, Chandlar Rott, Micha Hoke, and Anteau qualified for the state meet in the 4×800 meter as well for Jamestown. Devin Beach placed fourth in the triple jump, and Thomas Allmer was fifth in the discus. Placing inside the top six qualifies you for state.
Jamestown took fourth in the 4×100 meter as well with Beach, Levi Korum, Preston Kroeber, and Brode Hillstrom running a 44.84.
The Class A Meet will be held at the MDU Resources Community Bowl in Bismarck on Friday and Saturday next week. The meet will begin at 9 am on Friday and 10 am Saturday.
