Eve Marie Hendrickson, 96, Valley City, ND passed away Sunday, May 16, 2021 at Sheyenne Care Center, Valley City.
Eve Marie Hendrickson was born Dec. 6, 1924, in Minot, the daughter of the Rev. Alfred and Karen Skorpen Hendrickson. At the time of her birth, her father served as the Lutheran pastor in Carpio, northwest of Minot, which she counted as her hometown.
Eve grew to adulthood in Valley City and Bismarck. She graduated from Bismarck High School and went on to the University of Iowa. Eve also served in the women’s auxiliary of the U.S. Coast Guard during the Second World War.
Following her graduation from the University of Iowa, Eve taught high-school business courses for several years. Then she moved to Sausalito, California, where for nearly sixty years she relished the urbane cosmopolitan artistic and intellectual life of the Bay Area. During her time in California, Eve worked for a San Francisco law firm.
In 2015 Eve returned to the place she had always loved as a sanctuary and a paradise, Valley City. The Hi-Line Bridge, the Fair Store, Karl Olsens, the presence of family, and the wonderful loving attention she received as a resident of Bridgeview and, in these last years, the Sheyenne Care Center, all gave her great joy. Eve throve in Valley City, her true home-town, just as she had for so many years in Sausalito, San Francisco, and the whole Bay Area.
Eve was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Ralph and Phil; and devoted friend Kate Kirby.
Eve is survived by nephews John (Lisa), Hinsdale IL, Chuck (Marcia), Chancellor SD, and Jim (Cathy), Rolling Hills Estates CA; nieces Judy (Bruce) Kirschenmann, San Jose CA, and Rebecca Hendrickson (Phil Harris) Sioux Center IA; and her sister-in-law Arlene Hendrickson, Brookings SD. She is also survived by local cousins Charles (Meiying) Edin, Bismarck, Bradley Edin, Valley City, and Barbara Edin (Donald Brummond), Fargo.
A private memorial service will be held this summer.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel, Valley City. An online guestbook is available at www.oliver-nathanchapel.com
