WASHINGTON, D.C. (NAFB) – The U.S. dairy industry is frustrated with what it alleges is Canada’s efforts to limit U.S. dairy exports, even under hard-fought USMCA relief. So, the industry is now pressing for the Biden administration to start a dispute settlement case with Canada.

While much attention is focused on Mexico’s barriers to U.S. exports like GMO corn, the U.S. dairy industry says Canada continues to limit access to its dairy market, circumventing USMCA.

New York Congressman Thomas Reed wanted to know how dairy talks with Canada are going at a recent House hearing with the U.S. trade ambassador.

A group of 67 US dairy firms and organizations wrote Tai to start a USMCA dispute settlement case if months of talks fail again this week to resolve what the industry says is Canada’s reserving the bulk of quota access for its own processors.
