JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – After one of the most difficult years Emergency Medical Services (EMS) has faced, National EMS week this year will be even more important.

In 1974, President Gerald Ford authorized EMS Week to celebrate EMS practitioners and the important work they do in our nation’s communities. This year’s theme is This Is EMS: Caring for Our Communities. After 2020 and the global pandemic, Jamestown Ambulance Operations Manager Andrew Berkey says they want to make this week special.

Berkey added the week of May 16th through the 22nd will put EMS in the spotlight and highlight the ways they make a difference in the region.

Over EMS Week, Jamestown Area Ambulance will be hosting a variety of ways the public can interact and learn more about what they do. On Monday, they’ll hold a Facebook live starting at 11 AM. They’ll be answer any questions someone may have about Paramedics and their jobs.

Other events over the week include an AED Education Event, Free Hands Only CPR event, and an Ambulance Tour in the Park.

Berkey added they will also be celebrating their crews over the week with specific events planned for his staff.
