Carrington, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)—–The Carrington Cardinals could only scratch 1 unearned run in a 7-1 loss to the Velva-Drake-Anamoose (VDA) Aggies. Gunnar Mogen picked up the pitching victory and also scored 2 runs to lead the Aggie victory. Mogen held the Cardinals to just 5 total hits and the 1 unearned run in the third inning. Noah Paulson (1-3, run) singled to start the inning and advanced to second base on an error committed by the left fielder. Paulson scored on a 2 out single from Grady Shipman (1-3, RBI). Lucas Hendrickson, Hudson Schmitz, and Austin Trelstad also collected base hits in the game for the Cardinals.
Mogen pitched a complete game, striking out 7 Cardinal batters and walked just 1 batter. The Aggies scored 4 runs in the top of the third inning, just 1 earned run, Carrington committed 3 errors in the frame. Ricky Gonzalez (2-4, 3 RBI, run) delivered a 2 run single scoring Mogen (1-4, 2 runs, SB, sac), and Gage Florence (2-3, 2 runs, BB). Thomas Bodine (courtesy runner for Gonzalez) and Tace Pederson would also score later in the inning on a pair of Carrington errors.
The Aggies would add 3 more runs in the sixth inning on RBI singles from Colin Dean (1-3, RBI, BB), Gonzalez, and Luke Zimmer (1-4, RBI, SB).
