JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The City of Jamestown held a special meeting Tuesday and approved their share of an incentive package for the new soybean crushing plant in Spiritwood.
On Monday, ADM announced plans to build North Dakota’s first-ever dedicated soybean crushing plant and refinery. The plant would cost $350 million and crush 150,000 bushels of soybeans per day. It’s expected to be completed prior to the 2023 harvest and create 70 full-time jobs.
The JSDC came up with a more than $2.5 million incentive package covered by the city and Stutsman County. JSDC CEO Connie Ova says they’ve given incentive packages to similar projects in the past.
Ova added there will be “clawbacks” or stipulations for ADM to meet in order to receive the incentives proposed by the JSDC. The proposal would be an 80/20 split between the city and county.
Mayor Dwaine Heinrich stated the proposal would show an act of “good faith” from the city.
The city approved their share of the incentives at a cost of $2,011,200.
In other business, the city approved a second reading pertaining to the sale and possession of alcohol on a public right-of-way directly adjacent to the location of an on-sale license holder within the city limits. They also approved a permit application for outdoor seating areas on City or State Right-of-Way and Cover Instructions.
