JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Yaks, scorpions, and other exotic animals will be at the Stutsman County Fairgrounds on Sunday, May 16th in Jamestown.

The James River Exotic Animal Sale is entering it’s 3rd year in 2021. Created by the Foerderer family, the goal was to bring in animals that aren’t normally found among those in North Dakota.

Avery Foerderer says they’ve had great success with the sale, bringing in hundreds of spectators and buyers from all over the region.

When it comes to the exotic animals, Foerderer says they’re never sure what will show up.

Organizer Alisa Foerderer says the event also brings a revenue benefit to the community.

“Not only is it a fun family event but it draws in revenue for Jamestown from food, gas, and lodging,” she stated. “We even line up a motel group rate for our Sale attendees. We also choose to support our local 4-H Clubs by allowing them to serve concessions to earn money for their clubs. In addition, we choose to try to include as many young people and kids in helping with the sale. We want to share our passion for animals with them to carry the torch on to their generations.”

The event will run from 8 AM to 5 PM at the Stutsman County Fairgrounds on May 16th. The cost of admission is $5 and children ages 7 and under get in free.
