WIMBLEDON, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – John Schlecht says an event planned for May 20th will hopefully help the small town of Wimbledon.

A native of Wimbledon, Schlecht says his idea for a Flea Market was created to help support the community he’s known his whole life. Over the years, the small town has experienced a lot of hardships they’ve had to bounce back from.

Schlecht says a steak night created 10 years ago by Jim & Jan Martin has helped the community by creating different opportunities for residents and visitors to experience. Money raised during the monthly steak night would later be used for playground equipment, a Veteran’s Memorial in town, and a legion club remodel.

With that, a group was formed to create a first ever flea market to be held in conjunction with steak night to help raise money for the non-profit grocery store. Schlecht added he’s hopeful to have many vendors sign up for the event to help bring people to town.

Schlecht’s drive for the community and all small towns is obvious, adding the importance of keeping things open and attracting visitors and new residents.

The Flea Market is scheduled for Thursday, May 20th during steak night near Main Street in Wimbledon. The Wimbledon Community Museum will also be selling some duplicate antiques. Vendors are also needed for the event.
