SIOUX CITY, IA. (NewsDakota.com) – The #1 ranked Jimmies women’s volleyball team saw its historic season come to an end on Friday evening at the Tyson Events Center as Jamestown fell in four sets (25-21, 24-26, 28-30, 12-15) to Midland in the National Semifinal.
Jamestown took an early lead in the match after the set one win, but Midland was able to battle back late in the second set, scoring six out of the final seven points to tie the match at one. Jamestown and Midland would go to overtime in set three before the Warriors edged out Jamestown to take a 2-1 lead and the momentum from the third set rolled over into set four.
Jamestown was led by Anna Holen in kills with 12 while recording 22 digs. Kalli Hegerle had 11 kills and five block assists in the match. As a team the Jimmies hit just .119 on the evening and ended with 29 errors.
Jackie Meiklejohn finished with a team high in 21 assists and Megan Gaffaney added 20 more for Jamestown. Senior Sydney Ellingson ended with the year with 22 digs and a service ace, and Hannah Schiele added two service aces as well.
The Jimmies end the season with a 30-2 overall record after making the National Semifinal for the second consecutive season, and head coach Jon Hegerle reached 300 career wins.
