VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Valley City Public Schools activities director Mike Schultz announced the hiring of Buff Murray as the new Hi-Liner Girls Golf coach. Coach Murray will replace Annette Beattie who resigned after three years as the Hi-Liner girls golf head coach.
Coach Murray is a math teacher at Valley City Jr/Sr High School where he has taught since 1999.
He previously was involved in the boys golf program, first as an assistant and then as the head coach from 2005 to 2015. “I left coaching back in 2015 to enjoy watching my own kids participate in athletics here at VCHS.” Coach Murray has also coached in the Hi-Liner boys basketball program.
“With my youngest (Avery) moving on to college next fall, I figured the timing couldn’t be better to return to coaching.” Coach Murray lives in Valley City with his wife Karen and has three children Emily, Benton, and Avery. Coach Murray added, “I have enjoyed coaching throughout the years, and enjoy the game of golf. I look forward to working with the girls to improve their games and help them to appreciate the game of golf, an activity they can enjoy the rest of their lives.”
“We are extremely fortunate to have a teacher on staff with as much experience and success as Coach Murray brings to the Hi-Liner girls golf program,” said AD Schultz. “We are excited to bring him back into the Hi-Liner coaching ranks and look forward to continued growth in the girls golf program under Coach Murray.”
