FAIRMOUNT, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Matt Heley’s two run double in the bottom of the fourth inning broke a 2-2 tie and lifted the H/F/R/C-T/L Pirates to a 6-2 win over Enderlin/Maple Valley in high school baseball Thursday in Fairmount.
The Pirates are made up of players from Hankinson, Rosholt, S.D., Fairmount, Campbell-Tintah, Minnesota and Lidgerwood.
The Pirates scored first with a run in the bottom of the first when Austin Bladow drove in Preston Bohnenstingl with a two-out single.
The Falcons would tie it at 1 in the top of the third on C Bartholomay’s two-out single that brought in C Iwen.
The Pirates would take the lead back on when Bladow was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to make it 2-1 in the bottom of the third.
But, the Falcons came right back to re-tie the game when B Bartholomay drove on C Amerman with a single in the top of the fourth. That would be it for the Falcons scoring.
The decisive fourth started out with a singe by C Davenport then a walk to J Fredrickson. After a sacrifice bunt moved the runners into scoring position, Heley lined a o-1 pitch into center field for a double to plate Davenport and Fredrickson.
The Pirates would add two insurance runs in the sixth when both Heley and Bohnenstingl stole home three pitches apart to make the final 6-2.
Kaden Mark was 2 for 3 to lead the Falcons. Kashden Wadeson, Carson Bartholomay, Anthony Wendel, Caden Amerman, Ty Combs and Brenan Bartholomay all had one hit.
Austin Bladow was 2 for 2 to lead the Pirates. Matt Heley drove in two runs for HFRCTL. Kaden Kelly went the distance for the Pirates. He scattered nine hits over seven innings with two earned runs. He walked one and struck out 11.
Tony Perales stole home in the bottom of the fifth to lead the Pirates to a 5-4 win in the second game.
Enderlin/Maple Valley is now 0-3 in Region games and 0-5 overall.
