JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – The UJ softball team picked up one of the two games against Concordia on Wednesday afternoon as they defeated the Bulldogs 3-1 in game one before dropping game two 4-2.
Kat Miska dazzled hitters once again in the first game in the circle for the Jimmies, but it was the late-game heroics of Jenna Remenar that gave Jamestown the victory. With Santina Zito standing on second base and two outs in the seventh inning, Remenar hit her first collegiate home run to propel the Jimmies to victory. Miska earned her 13th win of the year, and Jamestown’s Morgan Geiszler went 2-for-3 with two doubles.
In game two, Concordia jumped on the scoreboard in the first inning off a pair of errors by the Jimmies. Jamestown would tie the game in the second off an RBI single by Gracie Fisher that scored Zito. The Bulldogs regained the lead in the third and then tacked on two more in the fifth by scoring both runs with two outs. The Jimmies would produce a run in the fifth to chip away at the Bulldogs lead, but a catch by Kylee Nixon to end the fifth inning halted the Jamestown comeback.
Katie Merchant was tagged with the loss in the second game, going 4.2 innings and giving up four runs, three of which were earned. Jamestown now holds a 26-10 overall record and is currently in fourth place in the GPAC at 9-5 in conference play. The Jimmies return to the diamond this weekend when they travel to Doane and Hastings for doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday.
