LA CROSSE, WIS. (vcsuvikings.com) – Senior pitcher Emily Smith picked up her third no-hitter of the 2021 season as the Vikings shut out the V-Hawks in Sunday’s doubleheader.

The Vikings took the first game 6-0 and finished the second game 10-0 in just five innings.

Valley City State now posts a 21-5 overall record and 14-2 conference record. Viterbo drops to 5-27 overall this season and 5-13 in the NSAA.

UP NEXT: The Vikings are slated to host Mayville State on Wednesday, April 21. The conference doubleheader will feature a brat feed for a freewill donation that will support the American Cancer Society. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. Mayville State is currently three games back of VCSU in the conference standings.

VCSU 6, Viterbo 0
Valley City State’s Amber Stewart pitched a complete game shutout of Viterbo, allowing just three hits and striking out four batters. Stewart now holds a 7-2 record this season.
The Vikings put two runs on the board in the second inning with RBI singles from Riley Perryman and Andrea Rodriguez. Anne-Elise Gest later scored Jessica Husband on a base-hit in the sixth, and VCSU scored three more runs in the sixth on an RBI double from Autumn Perry and sac fly from Keana Harmon.

Autumn Perry went 2-for-3 and Andrea Rodriguez was 2-for-2 at the plate Sunday, each recording an RBI in the game. Riley Perryman scored two runs and added an RBI for VCSU.

VCSU 10, Viterbo 0 (5 innings)

Senior pitcher Emily Smith tossed her third no-hitter of the season, shutting out the V-Hawks in just five innings. Smith struck out seven batters and walked just one. Smith is now 13-1 in the circle this season.

Andrea Rodriguez opened scoring with a two-run single in the second inning. Sierra Crocker then smashed a solo home run in the third inning followed by back-to-back doubles from Marissa Hawkins and Makenzee Stone. Rodriguez then drove in a pair of runs with another two-run single followed by an RBI single from Jessica Husband to put the Vikings ahead 7-0.

Stone added an RBI single in the fourth and Saige Forseth drove in two runs with a base hit in the fifth to cap VCSU’s scoring.

Stone was 3-for-3 at the plate, scoring two runs and tallying three RBIs. Crocker went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and scored one run.
