FARGO, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Trey Hatfield led Fargo Oak Grove at the plate and on the mound as the Grovers opened their season with an 8-5 win over Enderlin/Maple Valley in high school baseball Thursday in Fargo.
The Falcons scored first with three runs in the first all with two outs. Brenan Bartholomay got the scoring going when he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and two out. That brought in Kashden Wadeson who reached on an infield hit. Ty Combs would walk on four pitches to bring in Caden Amerman. Andrew Mickelson would drive in courtesy runner Marty Rohreck with an infield hit to make it 3-0.
The Grovers would get a run back in the bottom of the first. The first four batters reached to start the inning for Oak Grove. The fourth, Josiah Dietz, drove in Jake Wolf with an infield single to make it 3-1 Falcons.
The Grovers would take the lead with four in the second. All four runs came with two outs. Elias Dudeck would have an rbi single to cut the lead to 3-2. Kam Liebl would score on a wild pitch to tie the game at 3. Then Dudek would score on Connor Asche’s base hit to make it 4-3. Hatfield would drive in Asche with a base hit two batters later to make it 5-3 Oak Grove.
Enderlin/Maple Valley would tie the game at 5 with two, two out runs in the third. Kaden Mark brought in a run with a bases loaded walk and Wadeson would tie the game when he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
But the Grovers regained the lead in the bottom of the third on a rbi sinlge by Elias Dudeck. The would add an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth on an rbi ground out by Hatfield.
Jake Wolf, Elias Dudeck and Connor Asche all had three hits for Oak Grove. Dudeck and Asche also drove in two runs. Hatfield had two hits and drove in two runs for the Grovers. He pitched 4 1/3 shutout innings in relief to pick up the win. He walked two and struck out seven.
Carson Bartholomay took the loss for the Falcons who fell to o-2 in Region 1 and 0-2 overall.
