JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Stutsman County 4-H Clothing Revue contest was held April 11th at the NDSU Extension Stutsman County office.

Fourteen 4-H members competed in this event, some in more than one category. The clothing revue contest has three categories and three age groups. Cloverbuds are ages 5 to 7, Preteen are ages 8 to 12 and Teen are ages 13-18. The categories are sew and show, buy and show, and decorate your duds. Each entry must fill out a form that tells about their project for the judge to review and then do a one-on-one interview with the judge for that category.

Once everyone has completed the interview portion of the contest, the Presentation portion starts. This is also judged and the exhibitors wear their projects and ‘present’ them to an audience and judges. The youth are judged on the construction or purchase of the project, the completeness of their form, and their presentation of their project.

This contest teaches poise, confidence, and responsibility. Grand and Reserve champion awards are given in each category for the teen and preteen divisions.

Cloverbuds – who are not judged but are given the chance to try and learn without pressure – receive participation ribbons and a 4-H t-shirt. Judges this year were Laurie Brown, Victoria Christensen, Pat Rode and Carla Sayler.

In the Sew & Show category, where the exhibitor must sew a portion to all of their outfit, grand champion preteen was Blaire Irish and reserve was Reanna Schlecht.

In the Buy & Show category, where the exhibitor must purchase their outfit and explain why they did, grand champion preteen was Annabelle Rittenbach and reserve was Elizabeth Rittenbach.

In the Decorate Your Duds category, where the exhibitor decorates a piece of clothing or wearable item with their own design or ideas, the grand champion preteen was Chloe Smith and reserve was Blaire Irish; the grand champion teen was Montana Short and reserve was Destiney Drake.

Our Cloverbuds this year were Britleigh Irish who was in Sew & Show and Decorate Your Duds; Violet Olson who was in all three categories, and Clara Rittenbach who was in Buy & Show.
