MANDAN, N.D. (vcsuvikings.com) – Valley City State University junior Jocelyn Braunberger started the spring golf season with a first-place finish Thursday, earning medalist honors at VCSU’s triangular with Dickinson State and the University of Mary.

Braunberger carded a 12-over round of 84 during the 18-hole tournament at Hawktree Golf Course in Bismarck, N.D. She was two shots better than second place in the field of 13 golfers. Braunberger finished the round with eight pars, which was the most by a female golfer on Thursday. It is the sixth career victory for Braunberger.

Viking freshman Rory Gentzkow also had a strong spring debut as he placed second in the men’s triangular. Gentzkow carded a 3-over round of 75, finishing three shots behind first place. He made a tournament-best six birdies during Thursday’s round.

Also for Valley City, Jayden Ewoniuk shot 85 to finish 13th. Rounding out VCSU’s men’s team were Darynt Carroll (92, 15th) and Hunter Berg (94, 16th). The Viking men had a team score of 346 and placed third.

On the women’s side, VCSU had three golfers compete so the Vikings did not record a team score. Ashley McKittrick placed 11th with a 98, and Megan Haugrud was 13th with a 106 total.
