JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – The University of Jamestown softball team opened up the home schedule with a doubleheader sweep of Dordt by winning 12-2 in game one and 8-6 in game two at Trapper Field.
The Jimmies have now won seven games in a row and now have a 23-7 overall record with a 6-2 mark in the GPAC. Kat Miska was dominant once again in the circle in game one for Jamestown and freshman Gracie Fisher got the scoring going early for the Jimmies with a two-run blast in the second. Miska is now 11-1 and has 141 strikeouts against just 28 walks on the season.
UJ kicked into high gear in the fourth inning when they scored eight total runs on eight hits. Morgan Geiszler hit her sixth home run of the year in the fourth with a three-run shot into deep center. Jamestown needed just five innings to take down Dordt in game one behind 13 total hits.
In game two, the Jimmies were aided by seven extra base hits, including another homerun by Geiszler to outlast the Defenders. Sydney Prussia hit her first homer of the year in the third inning on a two-run blast to left field. UJ picked up 14 hits as a team in the second game and Katie Merchant earned her ninth win this season. Merchant is now 9-3 with a 3.94 earned run average.
Jamestown will return to Trapper Field and conference play on Saturday at 1 pm against Briar Cliff. The Chargers currently have a 13-15 record and are 2-6 in conference play this season.
