JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Stutsman County generates nearly $1 million in wind energy taxes according to members of the North Dakotans for Comprehensive Energy Solutions (NDCES) group.

Spokesperson Tammy Ibach informed the Stutsman County Commission Tuesday that they continue to promote and educate on wind energy across the state. She gave the commission the latest numbers on wind energy Tuesday.

Ibach added that with some counties that don’t have oil or coal, wind energy provides a great resource for counties and landowners.

She added that the economic impact of wind in North Dakota is more than $1 billion.

Robert Harms, Policy Advisor for NDCES, says they focus on grid reliability and ensuring outages aren’t experienced with wind energy generation.

Harms pointed out there are two differences between wind energy in North Dakota compared to other states like Texas and California.

When asked how a state like North Dakota can continue producing wind energy when freezing temperatures set in, Harms says it comes down to preparedness.

Ibach informed the commission that they would look to return and provide more data as wind energy continues to expand in the region and state.
