DICKINSON – Valley City State softball players Riley Perryman and Makenzee Stone combined for three home runs and seven RBIs in Friday’s sweep over Dickinson State.
The Vikings took the first game 7-0, collecting 14 hits throughout seven innings. Valley City State then took the second game 10-1 after posting 12 hits.
Valley City State improves to 13-3 overall this season and 6-0 in the NSAA. Dickinson State drops to 13-8 overall and 3-3 in the conference.
VCSU 7, DSU 0
The Vikings put a run on the board with an RBI double from Anne-Elise Gest in the first inning and never looked back Friday. Makenzee Stone added a two-run home run in the third inning, followed by a Riley Perryman two-run homer in the fifth to expand the Viking lead. Jessica Husband added a pair of RBI singles to cap VCSU’s scoring.
Amber Stewart and Emily Smith combined for the shutout, with Stewart picking up the win in the circle. Stewart pitched 6 1/3 innings, allowing four hits, walking one and striking out nine. Smith pitched in relief and struck out two.
Gest, Husband and Marissa Hawkins each doubled for the Vikings. Perryman and Husband both went 3-for-4 at the plate and collected two RBIs each. Joelle Aiello and Autumn Perry each added two hits and one run.
VCSU 10, DSU 1
After four scoreless innings to open game two, Riley Perryman‘s solo home run in the fifth inning broke open Valley City State’s scoring as they posted all 10 runs in the final three innings of the game.
The Vikings added a pair of runs in the sixth inning on an RBI double from Hawkins and a Dickinson State passed ball. Gest then kicked off a seventh inning rally with an RBI double. A Hawkins base hit drove in a pair of runs and Perryman added a two-run double. Autumn Perry and Andrea Rodriguez each drove in a run to finish the seven-run inning.
Emily Smith got the win in the circle, pitching a complete game and walking in one run. She allowed four hits and struck out 11.
Hawkins and Perryman each finished with two runs and three RBIs. Hawkins and Stone each recorded three hits for VCSU, while Perryman and Husband had two hits each.
