JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – For the second time this season, the University of Jamestown’s Dru Fitz and Kat Miska have earned Pitcher of the Week Honors from the Great Plains Athletic Conference after another week of dominant outings on the mound.
The lone outing on the week for the senior Fitz came on Friday at Midland in conference play. The right hander from Oregon mowed down the Warriors from the beginning to the end of the game, going seven innings while striking out nine Midland batters and allowing just one hit. Fitz earned his fourth victory of the season to improve to 4-0, and his ERA is 2.31 this season in 39 innings pitched. A transfer from Mt. Hood CC, Fitz has recorded 43 strikeouts this year and has given up just six total walks. The Jimmies get back to action on Thursday afternoon when they host Briar Cliff at 2 pm.
For UJ softball, junior Kat Miska stayed at the top of her game this past week in two outings for the Jimmies in the circle. The right hander totaled 13 innings of work, giving up just 11 hits and striking out 26 total batters in her two games this week. Miska only allowed three earned runs in those 13 innings pitched, and her ERA still sits below 1.00 this season. She ranks in the top 20 in the country in four different pitching categories, including ERA, wins (10), and opponents’ batting average (.169). The Jimmies will return to conference play next Wednesday versus Dordt.
