BISMARCK, N.D.(playnorthstar.com) – The North Star Athletic Association announced its seventh baseball weekly honors edition Monday.
Charlie Patterson of Bellevue (Neb.) was selected as the Pitcher-of-the-Week. JT Reed of Valley City State (N.D.) was named as the Player-of-the-Week.
North Star Athletic Association Baseball Pitcher-of-the-Week
Charlie Patterson – Bellevue (Neb.) – 6’0” – Junior – pitcher – Eugene, Ore. – Patterson tossed seven scoreless innings as Bellevue (Neb.) collected a 5-0 victory over Mayville State (N.D.). He limited the Comets to three hits and recorded five strikeouts in the game. The Bruins went 2-2 record in the four-game series with Mayville State.
North Star Athletic Association Baseball Player-of-the-Week
JT Reed – Valley City State (N.D.) – 5’9” – Junior – outfielder – Greenfield, Wis. – Reed batted .538 with 3-run home run, a 1.000 slugging percentage and a .647 on-base percentage as Valley City State (N.D.) went 2-1 record for the week. He was 4-of-4 at the plate with a home run, three RBIs, and two stolen bases in VCSU’s 9-2 victory over Mayville State (N.D.). He also went 3-of-6 in the second game of the series with a home run and four RBIs, earning a doubleheader split
with Dakota State (S.D.) after a 14-8 win.

Waldorf (Iowa) fell short to Mount Mercy (Iowa) on the road by the score of 12-8 on March 24. The Warriors opened the North Star Athletic Association season with a split with Dickinson State (N.D.) on March 27, winning the first game 13-3 in eight innings and Blue Hawks winning the second game 17-11. WU completed the doubleheader sweep on March 28 by the scores of 7-5 and 12-9. Waldorf claims the lone possession for first place in the NSAA standings with 9-13 overall record and 3-1 conference record. Dickinson State is 3-13 overall record and 1-3 record in the league.
Bellevue (Neb.), receiving votes in the latest NAIA Baseball Coaches Top 25 national poll, and Mayville State (N.D.) earned the North Star Athletic Association four-game series season opening split. The Bruins won the first game 5-4 in 10 innings on March 26, followed by the Comets winning the second game 3-2. BU shut down MSU 5-0 on the first game on
March 27, while the Comets closed out the series with an 8-3 victory. Bellevue is 19-10 overall record. Mayville State, who fell to Valley City State (N.D.) 9-2 in a non-conference contest on March 23, is 13-8 overall record. Both teams are 2- 2 record in the league.
Dakota State (S.D.) and Valley City State began their season opening conference contest on March 27 but was forced to complete the game on March 28. The Trojans rallied back for a 9-7 victory in the first game, while the Vikings held on to win the second game 14-8 to earn a doubleheader split. Dakota State is 8-8 overall record. Valley City State is 8-15 overall record. Both DaSU and VCSU are 1-1 record in North Star contests.
Presentation (S.D.) and Viterbo (Wis.) earned the NSAA season opening doubleheader split on March 28. The Saints won by the score of 13-6, while the V-Hawks won by the score of 3-2. Viterbo is 6-9 overall record and Presentation is 5- 19 overall record. Both teams are 1-1 record in the league.
Looking Ahead
The North Star Athletic Association season opening weekend continues Monday (today) with Presentation (S.D.) at Viterbo (Wis.) and Valley City State (N.D.) at Dakota State (S.D.).
Waldorf (Iowa) stays home on Tuesday for a doubleheader with Grand View (Iowa). Mayville State (N.D.) travels to Northwestern (Iowa) on the same day, while Bellevue (Neb.) plays a nine-inning road contest at Morningside (Iowa). Dakota State stays home for a nine-inning game with Mount Marty (S.D.)
Valley City State stays on the road Wednesday for a nine-inning game at NCAA Division III Concordia-Moorhead (Minn.). Dakota State travels to Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) on the same day for a nine-inning contest.
The North Star Athletic Association action continues Friday-Saturday. The schedule includes Bellevue at Viterbo; Mayville State at Presentation; Dakota State at Waldorf and Valley City State at Dickinson State (N.D.).
