MOORHEAD, MN. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jimmies softball team returned to action on Wednesday against NCAA Division II opponent MSU-Moorhead and defeated the Dragons 4-1 and 9-1 in the doubleheader.

Jamestown’s Kat Miska picked up her ninth victory of the season while striking out 11 Dragon batters in game one of the doubleheader. The junior allowed just five hits and one earned run in her ninth complete game of the year. The Jimmies Mariah Wick cleared the bases with a double in the fourth inning to put Jamestown in front 4-0 and give Miska the run support she needed to shut down MSU-Moorhead.

The second game of the day saw Jamestown score nine total runs in five innings to sweep the Dragons. Katie Merchant was in the circle for all five innings and gave up one run and five total hits to improve to 7-3 overall this season.

UJ got on the board in the second inning behind a sacrifice bunt and a fielding error by MSU-Moorhead. The Jimmies scored four runs in the third and two more runs in the fourth to cement their lead for good. Jamestown tacked on an additional run in the fifth and tallied 11 total hits as a team in game two.

The Jimmies moved to 19-7 overall this season and will return to conference play on Saturday when they travel to College of Saint Mary in Nebraska. Jamestown is 2-2 in the GPAC this season and the Jimmies were receiving votes in the latest NAIA poll.
