VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Valley City Rural Fire District firefighters responded to a grass fire southwest of Valley City on Sunday morning March 21st.

Fire Chief Scott Magnuson said a property owner was burning garbage debris and the fire spread to a grassy area. He said no injuries or structural damage was reported during the call for service. Magnuson reminded the public that a burn ban remains in place for Barnes County now through March 26th.

The ban includes the burning of leaves, grass clippings, garbage pits, construction debris, fallen trees as well as crop residue, sloughs, campfires and bonfires.

Barnes County Emergency Manager Sue Lloyd said residents can use grills and fire pits so long as there is an adult present and monitoring them to ensure the fire pit and grill are completely extinguished when done using them. She said the Barnes County burn ban will be reviewed again on March 26th.
