KANSAS CITY, MO. (NewsDakota.com) – The #13 seed University of Jamestown Jimmies continue their postseason run on Saturday at noon as they take on #5 seed Shawnee State in Kansas City and live on Jamestown 107.1.
The Jimmies come in on a three-game winning streak following wins in the Omaha B Bracket and Thursday night over Faulker, 88-83. Jamestown is 22-8 overall on the season behind a 14-6 conference record. UJ is shooting 50% from the field as a team throughout the year, and 39% from three-point range. Jamestown ranks 5th in total assists in the country and total three-pointers made and 8th in total scoring on the year.
Jamestown is led in scoring and rebounds this season by sophomore Mason Walters, who averages 22 points and 12 rebounds per game. Sophomore Marc Kjos leads the Jimmies in assists per game (4.6) and three-point shooting. Will Cordes is the team’s leader in free throw shooting percentage at 90%.
Shawnee State comes into the Elite Eight on an NAIA leading 24 straight wins. The Bears defeated Bethel (KS) 69-59 on Thursday night behind a triple-double from EJ Onu. It was the second time this season Onu has recorded a triple-double, and Jamestown will have a hefty task on its hand trying to slow down Onu on both offense and defense. The senior leads the NAIA in blocked shots per game for the second consecutive season and is second on the Bears in scoring at 18 points per game.
As a team, Shawnee State ranks number one in total blocks and rebounding defense. The Bears are second in the country in terms of field goal shooting percentage on defense, and number seven in total scoring.
