BISMARCK, N.D. (Prairie Public News) – The president of the University of Jamestown is encouraging members of the House to support a change to the state’s “challenge grant” program, made by the Senate, that allows the two private universities to participate.

That program provides scholarship dollars for students. For every $3 raised by a college’s foundation, the state puts in a $1 match.

The program originally was only for the 11 public colleges and universities. But the state Senate added the University of Jamestown and the University of Mary.

University of Jamestown President Polly Peterson spoke before the House Appropriations Committee.

The House committee has not taken action.
