JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – The University of Jamestown women’s wrestling team wrapped up the NAIA National Tournament with a seventh-place finish overall.
Seven Jimmies claimed All-American honors in the national tournament with Sierra Talmadge taking third at 170, the top spot for Jamestown in the invitational. Junior Arianna Maruffo and sophomore Josie Bartishofski placed fifth and sixth at 116, and Allie Baudhuin finished fifth at 130.
The Jimmies edged out Grand View University by half a point to take seventh overall with 77 points. Campbellsville took home the top crown with 185 points, and Life (GA) finished second at 134.5 points.
VOLLEYBALL: UJ 3, Mayville St. 0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-22)
#1 Jamestown continued to show why they are the top-ranked team in the country by sweeping Mayville State on Saturday.
Kalli Hegerle led all attackers with 14 total kills while hitting .500 for the match. Anna Holen gathered 18 digs and had nine kills and three other Jimmies finished with eight kills. Jamestown held Mayville State to a .146 attack percentage and 27 assists compared to 42 for UJ.
With the win, the Jimmies move to 22-1 overall on the season and will play at Dakota State on Wednesday at 7:00 pm.
MEN’S VOLLEYBALL: UJ 3, Limestone 2 (14-25, 23-25, 27-25, 25-19, 15-9)
The Jimmies used a comeback effort in the third set to turn the tide of the match to take down Limestone College 3-2 on Saturday.
#5 UJ set more records this week in the five-set match as Samuel Jackman pounded 24 kills on 49 attempts. Freshman Derek Correa dished out another Jamestown record with 52 assists against the Saints.
The Jimmies have now won eight matches in a row and are now 14-2 on the season. Jamestown will play Morningside in GPAC play on Friday and will take on the Mustangs again on Saturday in a non-conference game.
BASEBALL: UJ 4, Northwestern 0 | G2: UJ 3, Northwestern 2
The pitching staff for Jamestown showed up in a big way in a non-conference battle against Northwestern as they took two from the Red Raiders.
Dru Fitz was electric on the rubber in game one, striking out 11 and tossing a three-hit shutout to improve to 3-0 on the year. Designated hitter Luke Shekeryk hit his sixth home run of the season in game one. Shekeryk now has a .367 batting average on the year and leads the Jimmies in home runs.
In game two, UJ came back from two runs down and scored the game-winning run in the top of the seventh off of a solo shot by Brice Foster.
Austin Pesicka improved to 3-0 after throwing a shutout inning in the sixth frame. Andy Reed recorded his third save and struck out two batters in the seventh to give the Jimmies the doubleheader sweep.
Jamestown has the next five days off before they face off against Hastings to open up GPAC play on the road on March 20th.
