BISMARCK, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The way the game started out, it looked like Jamestown’s first appearance in the state girl’s basketball tournament in seven years was not going to be a good one, but a fierce comeback by the Blue Jays made things interesting.
In the end, Fargo Davies prevailed 56-46.
The Eagles jumped out to a 20-2 start, including the first 15 points if the game. But Katie Trumbauer would lead the Jays back. The junior would score eleven of her game high 13 points in the first half leading the charge to get to within 36-30 at halftime. A 10-2 run by Jamestown would cut the once 18 point lead down to six.
The Jays would score the first five points of the second half to cut the lead down to 36-35, but they could not get any closer. Davies would go on a 14-5 run to open up a ten points lead, 50-40.
The Eagles would miss all three free throw down the stretch, but Jamestown could not convert on the other end.
Along with Trumbauer’s 13, Annie Nabwe would score 10 points, but only one after halftime. She would add a game high 12 rebounds for the double-double. She would also have four steals. Ells Falk had nine points, nine rebounds and six assists for the Jays. Katie Falk chipped in eleven rebounds for Jamestown who out rebounded the Eagles 48-33. But they could not overcome shooting 20 percent in the second half and 29 percent for the game and 26 turnovers.
Davies was led by Ava Wild with 12 points and seven rebounds. Brooklyn Koenig and Taylor Fey had ten points. Fey would add eight rebounds. Ryleigh Wacha had nine points, eleven rebounds and five blocks and five steals.
Davies improves to 23-2 and will face Grand Forks Red River. The Roughriders posted a 62-51 win over Watford City.
Jamestown ends the season 15-9.
