JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – The University of Jamestown softball team took both games from Tabor College on Monday afternoon in Kansas as they defeated the Blue Jays 4-1 and 12-0.
In game one, Katie Merchant went the full seven frames to earn her fifth victory of the season. Merchant’s one run allowed was unearned, and she struck out nine Tabor hitters.
Leadoff hitter Morgan Geiszler went a perfect 3-for-3, scoring three runs. Kassi Ward collected two RBIs, one on a sacrifice fly in the first and the second on an RBI single in the fifth. Jamestown had seven total hits as a team in the opening game.
The Jimmies offense picked up in game two as they throttled Tabor 12-0 in five innings. Jamestown scored six runs in the first two innings and scored six more in the fourth to push themselves past the Blue Jays.
Seven Jamestown hitters had multiple hits in the second game against Tabor. Mariah Wick scored three times while driving in a game-high four runs driven in. Santina Zito finished her day 2-for-3 while bringing three more runs for Jamestown. The Jimmies had 17 hits in 32 total at-bats in the second game.
Lucy Sinkkonen grabbed her second win of the year, improving to 2-2 overall. Sinkkonen threw for three scoreless innings while allowing just one hit. Out of relief, Becca Thompson completed two full innings while walking two and striking out one.
Tabor picked up just one hit in the second game, and Jamestown improved to 12-4 on the year. The Jimmies are back in action on Wednesday for two games against Bethany College before taking on #2 University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma on Thursday in a doubleheader.
