NEW ROCKFORD, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Senior Johnny Grann dropped in 32 points, including eight 3-pointers for the Rockets of New Rockford/Sheyenne Monday night but it wasn’t enough as the Bearcats of North Star defeat the the Rockets 72-67 in double overtime in the quarterfinals of the Region 4 boys basketball tournament. NR/S ends their season at 15-8 overall, NS improves to 13-9 overall.
The Rockets were down by an many as 11 in the second half, but they applied a full-court press, causing the Bearcats to turn the ball over and the Rockets took advantage of that to tie the ball game and send it to overtime tied at 51. In the second overtime, North Star hit some big three’s and big free throws to help get the victory. The game featured a total of 11 lead changes and four ties. The Bearcats were led by Senior Thomas Nikolaisen with 22 points, including six 3’s, Freshman Dane Hagler added 17 and his brother Hayden added 14. North Star hit a total of 10 3-pointers, NR/S eight. Senior Evan Ulrich for the Rockets had 21 points.
