JAMESTOWN, N.D. (Unison Bank) – Unison Bank is accepting applications for its annual $1,000 Spirit Scholarship awarded to a qualifying area high school senior for the 2020-2021 school year. However, the application deadline is fast approaching on Friday, April 2, 2021.
“Applying for a scholarship can open up opportunities to college education for involved and committed students,” said Karla Sherfy, Unison Bank Spirit Scholarship recipient for the 2019-2020 school year. “A secondary education opens students to a wide range of educational opportunities and the ability to become a leader of their future community.”
Sherfy graduated from Jamestown High School in 2020. Currently she is a freshman at Montana State University in Bozeman, Mont., pursuing her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing with plans to graduate in 2024.
As a community bank, Unison Bank invests in its community and future generations. They will award the $1,000 Unison Bank Spirit Scholarship to a student who has demonstrated community spirit, the ability to work in ‘unison’ with others and has committed to go ahead with their education.
Being involved in the community has been important to Sherfy. Today, she can be found volunteering at Journey Church and serving the newborn and toddler Sunday School classes.
“I’m able to lead the younger generation through their faith journey and the beginning of new friendships,” Sherfy said.
She is also involved in Navigators, a campus ministry that works throughout the community of Bozeman, Mont., and most recently began the role as an Early Childhood Assistant Teacher at The Gathering Place, a non-profit, early learning center.
To be considered for the Spirit Scholarship, the student must meet the following criteria:
-Be eligible for graduation at the end of the 2020-21 school year.
-Plan to attend a college, university, vocational or technical post-secondary school in 2021.
-Applicant and/or parent/guardian must be a customer of Unison Bank.
-Applications must be submitted by April 2, 2021 along with a copy of their transcripts and a letter of recommendation from a non-related teacher, coach, school administrator, community member or employer that speaks about the applicant’s character and community spirit.
