JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The City Promotions Capital Construction Committee met Monday to discuss multiple proposals for different entities seeking funding for their projects.
Jamestown Tourism offers grants to nonprofit agencies in Stutsman County for projects that will grow or enhance visitor experiences and increase the impact of tourism in the local economy.
Jamestown Tourism Director Searle Swedlund reported they had $65,000 to allocate to that cause.
Swedlund says the funds could be used for building new visitor attractions, expansions, creating new experiences or supporting services for visitors. Funds cannot be used for marketing or ongoing operating expenses.
The funds are generally awarded twice a year, but due to a small amount of applicants and low funds, the fall allocation was moved to this spring.
Swedlund added they had received a variety of requests.
Projects the committee heard proposals on included:
-Arts Park Speaker Hangers
-National Buffalo Museum Pasture Tours
-TRAC Splash Pad
-Jamestown Soccer Club Expansion
-Frontier Village Repairs, Mowing Equipment, Signage
-Corps of Engineers River Trail
-Dakota Motocross Track Improvements
-Fort Seward Security Equipment
-North Dakota USA Powerlifting
After hearing proposals, the committee divided the funds to the different organizations. This included:
Arts Center – $1,500
Pasture Tours – $10,000
Splash Pad- $5,000
Frontier Village General Store & Church Repairs – $13,000
Frontier Village Mowing Equipment – $5,000
Buffalo Museum & Frontier Village Signage – $1,500
Corps River Trail – $7,000
Motocross Track Improvements – $10,000

While not all the funds were distributed, Swedlund says they will be utilized during their next grant requests in the fall.
