MINOT, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Senior Hannah Hagel had 16 points, three steals and six rebounds to help the Cardinals of Carrington defeat the Miners of Wilton-Wing on Saturday night 41-38 for third place at the 2021 State Class B girls basketball tournament at the Minot State University Dome. Carrington ends their season at 21-6, WW ends their season at 21-4.
The first half was low scoring, the Miners led 3-1 at the end of the first quarter, Carrington took the lead 10-9 at halftime. Scoring picked up a bit in the second half, the Cardinals outscored the Miners 19-12 in the third quarter to take the lead 29-21. WW closed the gap to two points, but some key free throws in the fourth quarter helped Carrington secure the victory in the fourth. Sophomore Hailey Quam led the way for Wilton-Wing with 23 points, 15 rebounds and six steals.
