ELLENDALE, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The following is a statement by Dickey County Emergency Manager Charlie Russell.

“Dickey County Commission re-instated the burn ban plan we have used over the last few years. With the lack of moisture, higher temps, and winds we get this time of year, the decision was made to enact it a little earlier this year.

Remember, per the plan, you CAN BURN anytime you wish, unless; the ND Range index is Very High or Extreme or, on NWS declared RED Flag warning days (high wind and low humidity)

Every effort will be made to alert you of NO BURN DAYS. Listen to local AM/FM radio as well as monitor the Dickey County Emergency Management Facebook page first thing in the morning.

You are required to call your local fire chief or the Sheriff’s office BEFORE you burn, to cut down on false fire responses.

The Dickey County Commission declares that a FIRE Emergency and Burn Ban Plan (to include a ban on campfires and garbage burning) be implemented, effective immediately, and to remain in effect when the North Dakota Rangeland Fire Danger is in the VERY HIGH or EXTREME index and/or a RED FLAG Warning has been issued for NORTH Dakota until further notice. THE PENALTY FOR VIOLATION OF THIS BURN BAN IS A CLASS B MISDEMEANOR (NDCC 37-17.1-10.1: MAXIMUM SENTENCE OF 30 DAYS IN JAIL AND A $1500 DOLLAR FINE).”
