JAMESTOWN, ND (NewsDakota.com) – The Blue Jay boys basketball team waxed Bismarck Saint Marys twice during the season but it was a whole different ball game Tuesday night in the opening round of the WDA boys basketball tournament at Jerry Meyer Arena as the Jays squeaked out a 67-61 come from behind victory.
The #7 seeded Saints led most of the game but some big buckets down the stretch by Blue Jay reserves Devin Beach and Ty Monson fueled the comeback.
The Jays bench put up 30 points, with 20 of those coming in the second half. Contributions from the bench included Beach with 11, Kade Schmacher 9, Monson 5, Adam Kallenbach 3, and Luke Van Berkom 2.
Brooks Carroll was the top gun for Jamestown on the night as he hit for 18 and Carson Lamp iced it away late by going 4-4 at the line. Lamp finished with nine.
Head coach Jacoby Lloyd said “Our bench was huge. It shows the depth of our team. So many guys can step up on any night.”
The Jays improve to 16-5, and advance to the Semifinals, and will host Bismarck High Thursday night with coverage on 107.1 and newsdakota.com at Jerry Meyer Arena. Tipoff for the boy’s game is scheduled for 7:30.
The winner will advance to the Championship game on Saturday, plus nail down a berth for the State Class “A” Tournament in Bismarck.
