GRAND FORKS, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Grand Forks Red River jumped out to a 27-0 lead in the first 10 minutes of the game and never looked back on the way to 64-39 win over Valley City in the quarterfinals of the Eastern Dakota Conference girls basketball tournament Tuesday night in Grand Forks.
The Hi-Liners did not score until Tesa Olson hit a short jumper to the right of the lane with 7:57 to go in the first half. From that point on, the Hi-Liners out scored the second ranked Roughriders 39-37.
Alex Page had nine of her game high 22 points i the first half when Red River built a 36-12 lead. Page added seven rebounds, three assists and three blocks for the Roughriders. Jade Azure had 12 points for Red River and Kaylee Lancaster had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Hannah Litzinger had six rebounds and four assists which tied Ella Fosse for the team high.
Dylann Diegel led Valley City with ten points. Olson had eight points, five rebounds and three steals. Brooke Eggermont had seven points and seven rebounds. Peyton Pederson scored all six of her points in the second half and she added five rebounds. Jadyn Dieterle did not score but had team highs 10 rebounds and six assists.
Valley City falls to 10-12 overall and will travel to West Fargo Thursday in a loser out game. Tipoff set for 4:30, pregame is at 4:15 on 1490AM/96.3 FM KOVC. Red River improves to 19-3 and will host Fargo Shanley on Thursday night.
