VALLEY CITY (VCSU) – VCSU football assistant coach Dustin Yorek has been promoted to offensive coordinator, head coach Dennis McCulloch announced today.
Yorek has been with the Vikings for two seasons, working as the offensive line coach in 2020 and the tight ends coach in 2019. He takes over the offensive coordinator position immediately as the Vikings prep for spring practice.
“I am honored and very excited to become the offensive coordinator at VCSU,” said Yorek. “I would like to thank Coach McCulloch for giving me the tools to develop as a coach and for giving me this opportunity with the Viking program. The community of Valley City, as well as the University, have been very welcoming since I arrived in town. I’m excited to continue to build relationships with the great people that make the community and VCSU special.”
Prior to joining the Viking staff in 2019, Yorek worked five seasons with the Presentation College football program – serving as student assistant and graduate assistant before working two years as a full-time coach for the Saints. While at Presentation College, Yorek worked with the offensive line along with roles of assistant strength coach, video coordinator, alumni relations and camp coordinator.
“Dustin’s past experience as a player and coach in our region help make him a great fit into our program,” said McCulloch. “His work ethic, relationship building, and knowledge of football has truly impressed me over the years I’ve known Dustin. I’m excited to see our offense develop under his direction. He will continue to be our offensive line coach, and we will hire additional staff that will complement our needs and direction of the offense and Viking Football.”
Yorek was an offensive lineman during his collegiate career, playing two years at Central Lakes College and two years at Presentation College. He was named All-Conference and a USA Small College Football All-American as a senior at Presentation College.
A native of Little Falls, Minnesota, Yorek earned a bachelor’s degree in exercise science from Presentation College and a master’s degree in sports management from Wayne State College.
He currently resides in Valley City with his wife Alyssa and daughter McKinley.
Yorek replaces former offensive coordinator Erik Matth, who worked five seasons with the Viking football program before resigning in January.
“I would like to thank Coach Matth for his five years of helping develop our young men and impacting many lives over that time,” said McCulloch. “We appreciate his dedication to VCSU and Viking Football, and we wish him the best in his future endeavors.”
VCSU football is scheduled to start spring activities later this month. Valley City State will open the 2021 season on Thursday, Aug. 26, with a home game against rival University of Jamestown.
