JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Abby Thornton picked up where she left off on Friday, then did a bit better finishing third in the All-Around at the Individual State Gymnastics Championships Saturday in Jamestown.

The sophomore scored better in all four events Saturday finished 1.133 points behind eventual state champion Amy Fridley of Dickinson.

Thornton was third on the vault with a 9.433. She took second on the bars with a 9.517, eight on the beam with a 9.017 and 14th on the floor with a 9.300.

As a team, the Hi-Liners placed five gymnasts in the top 20 in the All-Around, equaled only by Dickinson. Thornton was third, tied with Jamestown’s Haley Nelson. Jocey Kriewald was fifth, Karina Olson was eleventh, Olivia Olson was 13th and Grace Undem was 17th.

Amy Fridley was state champion in the vault, bars, an floor. Zoe Prince of Legacy was state champion on the beam.

Top ten finishers for the Hi-Liners:

Thornton (3rd), Kriewald (6th) on the vault. Thornton (2nd), Kriewald (4th), Karina Olson (8th) on the bars. Thornton (8th) and Kriewald (10th) on the beam. Olivia Olson (4th) and Jocey Kriewald (6th) on the floor.

This is the third year in a row that Dickinson has had the All-Around state champ. Alyssa Fossum was state champ the last two years. Fridley is the 13th All-Around state champ for Dickinson, the most for any school.
