VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Valley City used a 16-0 run early in the first half to open up an 18 point lead and never looked back on the way to a 60-40 win over Wahpeton in the play-in game of the Eastern Dakota Conference girls basketball tournament at the Hi-Liner Activity Center Saturday afternoon.

The run started when Drew Potratz hit a three-pointer with 10:08 to go in the first half to give the Hi-Liners an 11-6 lead. It was the one of four three pointers for the freshman in the first half. It ended the same way, a Potratz three with 6:02 to go. The Huskies were held without a basket for 5:40.

Valley City led 33-14 at the half behind Potratz’s 12 points.

The lead would get to as much as 26 points when Tesa Olson hit a three-pointer with 5:37 to go and Jadyn Dieterle had a steal and a layup with 5:20 remaining to make it 56-30 Hi-Liners.

Potratz led the Hi-Liners with 14 points. Brooke Eggermont had 13 points. Dieterle had nine points, seven rebounds, four assists and four steals.

McKena Koolmo was the only Huskie in double figures with 12 points. She added six rebounds and four steals.

Valley City improves to 10-11 overall and will now travel to Grand Forks to play top seed Red River in the quarterfinals on Tuesday. That game can be heard on 1490AM/96.3 FM KOVC. Gametime is to be determined. Wahpeton ends the season 3-19.
