VALLEY CITY, ND (NewsDakota.com) – The Valley City Hi-Liner girls played their last regular season game Thursday night, hosting the West Fargo Packers, and they ran into a buzz saw as the Packers jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, winning 78-45.

The game was over as a contest early, as the Packers took a 42-17 lead into halftime.  The Hi-Liners were able to cut the lead to less than 20 in the second half, but they never made a serious run at a comeback.  The end of the game saw both teams empty their benches and finish with younger players in the game.

Eleven Packers scored on the night, led by sophomore Chloe Pfau with 22 points.  Sophomore Miriley Simon dominated early, finishing the first half with 19 points.  Simon only had two points in the second half, but she sat a large portion with the game firmly in hand.  The rest of the Packers that scored had between two and six points.

The Hi-Liners had one offensive star each half, but, unfortunately, that was about it.  Sophomore Brooke Eggermont scored 11 points in the first half, but no other Hi-Liner had more than two.  Senior Jadyn Dieterle took the role of offensive playmaker in the second half, scoring 13 after having only a lone free throw in the first half.

Eggermont finished with 16, while Dieterle had 14.  The pair finished a combined 17-21 from the free throw line, accounting for more than half of their total points.

The Hi-Liners will host Wahpeton in an EDC play-in game on Saturday at for a chance to make the postseason tournament. Coverage begins at 2:45 with the pregame, tipoff at 3pm on 1490AM/96.3 FM KOVC and video stream live at https://www.newsdakota.com
