JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jimmies battled with Dordt in the first half but were able to pull away in the final 10 minutes to defeat the Defenders 89-68.
Sophomores Mason Walters and Marc Kjos had big second halves for Jamestown to secure an opening-round victory. Walters had just five points in the first half, but poured it on in the last 20 minutes and finished with 23 points and 11 rebounds. Kjos nearly had a double-double, dropping in 16 points and dishing out nine assists.
UJ shot 54% as a team and converted on 13 of 24 attempts from long range. Seven Jimmies knocked down a three on the evening, and Devan Praska had seven points and six rebounds off the bench.
Jamestown held Dordt to just 41% shooting from the field and 18% from three. Dordt finished the regular season fourth in the GPAC in scoring at 82 points per game.
With the victory, the Jimmies improve to 19-7 on the year and will now travel to Orange City to take on #2 Northwestern Saturday. When asked about the upcoming game against Northwestern, Jamestown head coach Danny Neville put simply, “We’ll be ready”.
