MADISON, S.D. (playnorthstar.com) – Valley City State men’s basketball player Jalen Addison has been named North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.

Jalen Addison – Valley City State (N.D.) – 6’2″ – Senior – guard – Milwaukee, Wis. – Addison led all scorers with a season-high 24 points and posted a game-high seven rebounds in Valley City State (N.D.) 78-69 regular-season finale victory at Dickinson State (N.D.).  He was 9-of-17 from the field (52.9 percent), including 3-of-5 3-pointers (60 percent).  Addison converted 3-of-5 free-throws.  He also recorded a steal and an assist in the game.

Bellevue (Neb.) secured the No. 2 seed in the postseason tournament after using a second-half surge to defeat Dakota state (S.D.) 73-62 on Feb. 18.  The Bruins improved to 17-13 overall record and 9-5 record in the North Star conference contests.  The Trojans dropped to 9-14 overall record and 7-7 NSAA conference record.

Valley City State (N.D.) pulled away past Dickinson State (N.D.) by the score of 78-69 in the final regular-season game on Feb. 19.  The Vikings, receiving votes in the latest NAIA Men’s Basketball Coaches’ Top 25 national poll, lifted their overall record to 18-6 and 9-5 NSAA conference record.  The Blue Hawks dropped to 9-16 overall record and 6-8 record in league games.

Mayville State (N.D.) at Presentation (S.D.) and Viterbo (Wis.) at Waldorf (Iowa) contests were canceled last week.  The Comets are 13-4 overall record and 10-3 in the conference, while the Saints are 4-22 overall record and 1-12 NSAA record.  The Warriors hold 5-16 overall record and 4-9 NSAA record and the V-Hawks are at 11-7 overall record and 8-5 NSAA conference record.

Looking Ahead This Week
The North Star Athletic Association men’s basketball postseason tournament gets underway on Tuesday evening with four opening round games.  No. 1 seed Mayville State (N.D.) welcomes No. 8 seed Presentation (S.D.), while No. 5 seed Dakota State (S.D.) travels to No. 4 seed Viterbo (Wis.).  No. 6 seed Dickinson State (N.D.) faces No. 3 seed Valley City State (N.D.) in Valley City and No. 7 seed Waldorf (Iowa) takes on No. 2 seed Bellevue (Neb.) in Bellevue.

The semifinals round is set for Thursday, with winners advancing to the championship game at the highest remaining seed on Saturday at 5 p.m.

The winner of the North Sar Athletic Association men’s basketball postseason tournament will earn the automatic bid to the NAIA National Tournament’s opening round on March 12-13.  The winner from the national tournament’s opening round will move on to the final site at the Municipal Gymnasium in Kansas City, Mo. on March 18-23.
