Valley City State Univeristy senior Macey Kvilvang has been named North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.

Macey Kvilvang – Valley City State (N.D.) – 6’5″ – Senior – forward – Cando, N.D. – Kvilvang scored a career-high 28 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for a double-double in Valley City State’s (N.D.) 73-70 road victory at Waldorf (Iowa).  She also posted double figures with 16 points and added eight rebounds, despite a 74-70 defeat at Viterbo (Wis.).  For the week, Kvilvang averaged 22.0 points and 10.0 rebounds per game.  She also averaged 1.5 assists, 1.0 block and 1.0 steal per game.  She was 21-of-33 from the field (63.6 percent) and made both free-throw attempts.

Recap from last week’s games
Dakota State (S.D.), who is ranked No. 21 in the latest NAIA Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Top 25 national poll, extended their school record winning streak to 15 games after going 3-0 record for the week.  The Trojans held off Mayville State (N.D.) 64-59 on Feb. 2 in Mayville, N.D. and defeated the Comets for the second time in five days by the score of 75-56 on Feb. 6 in Madison, S.D.  DaSU also cruised past Presentation (S.D.) 84-36 on Feb. 5.  Dakota State raised their overall record to 19-3.

Bellevue (Neb.) earned three home victories last week.  BU kicked off the week with a 76-47 home victory over Waldorf (Iowa) on Feb. 2.  The Bruins pulled away past MSU 72-61 on Feb. 5 and defeated the Saints 80-43 on Feb. 6.  BU improved their overall record to 13-5.  Mayville State fell to 11-6 overall record, while Presentation is 1-21 overall record.

Viterbo (Wis.) collected a pair of home wins last weekend.  The V-Hawks held on to defeat Valley City State (N.D.) 74-70 on Feb. 5, followed by a 77-64 overtime win over Dickinson State (N.D.) on Feb. 6.  Viterbo is 7-6 overall record.

DiSU and VCSU earned a victory at Waldorf.  The Blue Hawks won by the score of 72-53 on Feb. 5, while the Vikings held on to a 73-70 win on Feb. 6.  Dickinson State is 8-9 overall record, while Valley City State is 7-10 overall record.  Waldorf is 1-16 overall record.

Dakota State maintains their two-game lead in the North Star Athletic Association women’s basketball standings with an 11-0 record.  Bellevue is second with 9-2 record.  Viterbo, Dickinson State and Mayville State are tied for third with 6-5 league record each.  Valley City State is sixth with 5-6 record.  Waldorf sits in seventh place with 1-10 NSAA record, followed by Presentation eighth with 0-11 record.

Looking Ahead This Week
This weekend will be the last series of the regular-season of North Star Athletic Association contests before the traveling partners face each other on the final regular-season contest on Tuesday, Feb. 16.

Bellevue (Neb.) travels to Valley City State (N.D.) on Friday, while Dickinson State (N.D.) hosts No. 21-ranked Dakota State (S.D.).  Mayville State (N.D.) welcomes Viterbo (Wis.) in a key North Star contest on the same night, while Waldorf (Iowa) plays at Presentation (S.D.).

The traveling partners switch places on Saturday, with DaSU at VCSU, BU at DiSU, WU at MSU and VU at PC.
