VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A Valley City man was sentenced to 54 days in jail for his involvement in the illegal taking of big game in Barnes County stemming from several incidents dating back to October of 2019, which involved whitetail deer.
Judge Jay Schmitz ordered Jakob Ashline to pay $7,900 in fines, fees and restitution. He was ordered to a forfeiture of two rifles and a spotlight. Ashline will also lose his hunting, fishing and trapping privileges for a total of 10 year.
Two other men face a number of misdemeanor citations as well for their involvement in this case following an 11-month investigation.
Barnes County State’s Attorney Tonya Duffy said the maximum punishment for an A misdemeanor is 360 days in jail, a fine of $3,000, or both and for a B Misdemeanor, the maximum punishment is 30 days in jail, a fine of $1,500, or both.
