JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – This recap was written by Mark McKenzie

The Blue Jay hockey team went undefeated in January and they started the new month Monday night with a 7-1 victory over Williston at Wilson Arena.

Sophomore Brooks Roaldson jump-started Jamestown with his 4th goal of the season 59 seconds into the game, thanks to a nifty feed from Junior Hunter Nelson.

After that, it became a battle of goalies as the 1-0  score stood up through two periods.

Period three was all Jamestown as the Jays erupted for six goals including a hat trick from Nolan Nenow, his 15th, 16th, and 17th goals of the season. Nenow’s 17 goals ties him for first in the state with Grand Forks Central’s
Joey Kennelly.

Senior Jace Thompson followed up his four-goal game Saturday vs Hazen-Beulah with four assists.

Sophomore Conner McLachlan banged in his third of the season, Junior Joel Cummings knocked in his fifth and Junior Braxton Jorissen blasted home his third of the season.

Jamestown outshot the Coyotes
54-27 with Junior Goalie Brode Hillstrom coming up with 36 saves.

The Jays take over first place in the west at 11-2, good enough for 32 points in the standings. Minot is in second with 29 points and Bismarck Century is in third with 24 points.

The two hottest teams in the west will battle Thursday night in the capital city as Century, with six wins in a row, host the Jays at 7:15 pm with coverage on 107.1 and newsdakota.com.

The Patriots beat the Blue Jays in Jamestown on December 18th, 6-3.

“We remember that one for sure,” said head coach Matt Stockert. “They scored four in the first and we won periods two and three 3-2, so we are looking forward to the rematch”
